Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Jodi (“Jodi”, “we”, “us”), operated by Raju Dhariwal, D.D.S. TODO: legal entity name and address, collects, uses and protects information when you use the Jodi iOS app and this website.

1. Information you provide

Account information: phone number or email address and sign-in details used to create your account.
Profile information: name, age or date of birth, gender, photos, location (city or region), language, education, profession, family details, religious or community preferences, your answers to the values questions, partner preferences, and other details you choose to add. Some of this may be sensitive information (such as religion); you provide it voluntarily, and it is shown to other members only as part of your profile.
Voice intro: if you record a 30-second voice introduction, the audio is stored and played to members who view your profile.
Verification selfie: if you choose selfie verification, the selfie is used to confirm that your profile photos are of you, and to show a verified badge. TODO: legal review of how the comparison is performed and how long the selfie is kept
Section preferences: whether you use Rishta, Dating to Marriage or Saath, and your interests and Chai circles.
Messages and activity: interests you express, mutual matches, family suggestions, chat messages, photos shared in chat, and Saath posts.
Reports and support requests: information you send when reporting a member or contacting us.

2. Device permissions

Jodi asks for permission before using these features, and you can change your choice at any time in iOS Settings.

Camera: used only when you choose to take a profile photo, a verification selfie, or a photo to share in chat.
Photos: used only to let you pick images you choose for your profile or a chat. We do not access the rest of your library.
Microphone: used only while you record a voice intro or use voice typing.
Speech recognition: voice typing uses Apple's speech recognition to turn your speech into text. Depending on your device and language, audio may be processed on your device or sent to Apple to be transcribed, under Apple's privacy policy. Jodi does not store the audio from voice typing; only the text you choose to send is kept.
Face ID: if you turn on the Face ID lock, the app asks iOS to confirm it is you. Face ID is handled entirely on your device by Apple. Jodi never receives, collects or stores your face data or any other biometric data; it only learns whether the check succeeded.

3. Information collected automatically

We collect limited technical information needed to run the service, such as device type, app version, crash and error information, and authentication tokens. We do not use advertising identifiers, show ads, or use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

4. How we use information

To create and secure your account and verify sign-in.
To show your profile to other members, calculate values agreement, and suggest up to five introductions a day.
To deliver messages, photos, voice intros and Saath content.
To keep the community safe, including verification, automated warnings about messages that look like common scams, reviewing reports and enforcing our Terms.
To respond to support requests and improve reliability.

5. Service providers

Jodi is built on Google Firebase. We use Firebase Authentication to manage sign-in, Cloud Firestore to store profile, match and message data, and Firebase Storage (Cloud Storage for Firebase) to store profile photos, photos shared in chat, verification selfies and voice intros. Google processes this data on our behalf under its terms. Data may be stored on servers outside your country. Voice typing uses Apple's speech recognition as described above. 6. Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with other members as part of the service (your profile, voice intro and verified status, and messages and photos with your matches), with the service providers listed above, when required by law, or to protect the safety of members.

7. Your choices and account deletion

You can edit your profile, hide or change information, delete your voice intro, and block members at any time. You can delete your account from within the app (Settings). When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, voice intro and messages from our active systems, normally within 30 days, except information we must keep for legal or safety reasons, such as records of serious violations. 8. Retention

We keep information while your account is active and delete it as described above when you close your account.

9. Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and access is restricted by Firebase security rules. You can add Face ID to lock the app on your device. No system is perfectly secure, so please be careful what you share with people you have just met.

10. Age

Jodi is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 and will delete such accounts.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK, California, Canada or India), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port your data, and to object to certain processing. Email us to exercise them. TODO: legal review of jurisdiction-specific requirements

We will post updates here and notify you in the app of material changes.
